THREE FOOT RULE

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mk 16.15)."

After going to fundamental churches for thirty years I finally stumbled across the gospel according to the scriptures. It's strange that I was never taught what the gospel is or how to preach it during those thirty years. How can anyone preach the gospel if they don't know what it is?

The Apostle Paul clearly defined the gospel in his first letter to the Corinthian believers - "Moreover brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand; by which also you are saved if you keep in memory what I preached to you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And he was buried, and he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Cor 15.1-4).

When I found this passage of scripture and coupled it with a 'catch phrase' (Mt 4.19) I now tell it to everyone within three feet of me by first asking them if they have heard the good news (Gospel means good news.) and then telling them - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose again the third day (1 Cor 15.3-4)." This gives them the chance to believe on Christ and be saved (Jn 6.47 & Acts 16.31). Then I teach them that believe to preach the gospel by asking them to ask me if I have heard the good news (reverse role playing) and coaching them through the three parts that make up the gospel.

Every believer can and should preach the gospel and teach others to preach it once they know what it is and how to preach it. If we are not ashamed of the gospel (Rom 1.16) we can preach it to every person we cross paths with (the three foot rule) and teach them that believe to preach it. In so doing we turn our world right-side up and speed Christ's return to take us to be with him forever (Mt 24.14 & 30-31 and 1 Thes 4.13-18).
