ADDICTIONS

ďAll things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any (1 Cor 6.12)."

There are many sources of addiction in our world: drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, gambling, tv, caffeine and food, to mention a few. We must "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness"(Mt 6.33).Then our lives won't be rendered fruitless by them(Jn 15.16).

Our lives are as a vapour. We see it for a moment and it soon disappears(Jas 4.14).It is like the grass of the field. When the sun comes up it is soon withered(Mt 6.30).What can we do to make the most of the short time we have on earth? Our focus must be on eternal things by stripping our lives of the addictions that steal our worth and make us fruitless (See BE FRUITFUL on www.preach-the-gospel.org.). "Our body is for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. Flee fornication. Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's"(1 Cor 6.13b, 14, 18, 19 & 20).

Fornication (or idolatry) can be anything that prevents us from glorifying God in our body and our spirit(1 Cor 6.20).King David wrote, "I have refrained myself from every evil way"(Ps 119.101). What about television? A little tv, can lead to too much tv, just like a little alcohol can lead to lots of alcohol. Eventually our lives can become consumed by these little foxes that spoil the vines(Song 2.15)and in the end we find ourselves fruitless(Jn 15.16).Let's keep in mind that precious entity called time. "Teach us to number our days, that we might apply our hearts to wisdom"(Ps 90.12).How we can best use the time given us? We need to wean ourselves of some temporal things to have time for eternal things like reaping in Christ's harvest? "He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal"(Jn 4.36).

We store treasure in heaven by preaching the gospel to others that they might believe on Christ and born into his eternal kingdom(Jn 3.15-16).By reaping the harvest we avoid things that keep us from this noble purpose?

Remember: our lives are precious and our time is very limited. Let's cut out addictions that steal our time, value and fruitfulness and do God's will by preaching the gospel and teaching others to preach it.
