The gospel of John refers to believing on Christ eight times and believing in Christ four times (See 47 PASSAGES ON BELIEF on www.preach-the-gospel.org.). What is the difference between believing on Christ and believing in Him?
Preaching the gospel means to tell another the good news in person with our mouths, just as the apostle Paul and Christ's other disciples did (Rom 1.16, 1 Cor 1.21, Eph 6.19 and Col 4.3-4). This gives them the opportunity to believe on Christ and be born of God (1 Cor 4.15b and 1 Jn 5.1). Then they will follow Christ because they believe in Him (Mt 5.19) and we can teach them to preach the gospel and to teach them that believe how to preach it (Mk 16.15 & Mt 28.20). In so doing we turn the world right-side up (Please see IS 58.12, enhanced) on www.preach-the-gospel.org) and speed Christ's return to take us to be with him forever (Mt 24.14 & 30-31 and 1 Thes 4.13-18).
The Apostle Paul clearly defined the gospel he received and preached - "Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand; By which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached to you, unless you have believed in vain... For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received, how that "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Cor 15.1-4)."
To declare this same gospel to another simply ask them if they have heard the good news (Gospel means good news.) and say - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose the third day (1 Cor 15.3-4)." This allows them to believe on Christ and be born of God (1 Cor 1.21 & 1 Jn 5.1). "I have begotten you through the gospel (1 Cor 4.15b)." wrote the Apostle Paul and "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes (Rom 1.16)." (Please see SAVED on www.preach-the-gospel.org for a definition of 'saved'.).
We were born of God when we believed on Christ after the gospel was preached to us (Jn 6.47, Acts 16.31 & 1 Cor 1.21). Now we believe in him and obey his commands to preach the gospel to others and to teach them that believe to preach it (Mk 16.15 & Mt 28.20) thus multiplying the gospel seed. Thereby we turn the world right-side up (See IS 58.12 enhanced on www.preach-the-gospel.org.) and speed Christ's return to take us to be with him forever (Mt 24.14 & 30-31 and 1 Thes 4.13-18).
Please read a one-page paper each day on www.preach-the-gospel.org to gain knowledge and understanding that will encourage you to preach the gospel and to teach them that believe to preach it (and teach others to preach it).
