"Marvel not that I say to you , You must be born again (Jn 3.7)."

One of the most important yet misunderstood statements of Christ is - "You must be born again." This paper clarifies the meaning of 'born again' and explains how it occurs thus encouraging the reader to preach the gospel.

New creature (2 Cor 5.17), born of God (1 Jn 5.1) and begotten (1 Cor 4.15) are all synonyms for born again. But what does it mean to be born again? Christ told Nicodemus - "You must be born again." in context with - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (Jn 3.16)."

When a person is born again they enter the kingdom of God and inherit everlasting life (Jn 3.5 & 16-17), their sins become forgiven (1 Jn 2.12), the holy Spirit enters their heart (2 Cor 1.22), and they become a new creature (2 Cor 5.17). In other words they become saved (See SAVED on! All this occurs the instant a person believes on (or receives) Christ after the gospel is preached to them (Mk 16.15, Jn 1.12 & 6.47, Acts 16.31 and 1 Cor 1.21 & 4.15.). But to preach the gospel to another we must first know what the gospel is.

"Moreover brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand: By which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached to you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Cor 15.1-4)."

Preaching the gospel is simply telling another the good news (Gospel means good news.) in person with our mouth (See Eph 6.19-20 & Col 4.3-4). A fool-proof way to do it is to ask them if they have heard the good news and after they say, "What?" tell them - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose the third day (1 Cor 15.3-4)." The gospel saves every one that believes on Christ when we tell it to them in person with our mouth (Rom 1.16 & Eph 6.19).

Christ commands us to - "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mk 16.15)." To accomplish this we must teach them that believe to preach the gospel as well (Mt 28.20). Start by asking another, "Have you heard the good news?".
