We all need more than fun, finances, and fame to be fulfilled. The writer of Ecclesiastes said that pleasure, material possessions, and even great knowledge do not bring lasting satisfaction(Eccl 2). Jesus went even further to say, "Life does not consist in the abundance of things that a man possesses (Lk 12.15).
Thinking about this made me consider some prominent people who have committed suicide. One was a baseball star, several were entertainers, and two had inherited great wealth. I also recalled a highly esteemed scholar and his wife who both took a lethal overdose of drugs when they learned that she had terminal caner. These people had failed to find a meaningful existence.
Believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave meets our greatest need, bringing salvation and the assurance that we're forgiven (See SAVED on www.preach-the-gospel.org.). Spreading this good news to others gives us an eternal purpose and this is enough to bring deep peace and joy to our lives.
Daily ask others if they have heard the good news (Gospel means good news.) and tell them - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose the third day (Read 1 Cor 15.3-4)." then teach them that believe to do the same (Mk 16.15 & Mt 28.20). This will give meaning and divine purpose to your's and their life.
