ARE YOU OF GOD?

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God..." (1 Jn 4.1)

How can we tell whether a person is of God? The bible lays a clear and simple guideline. "Hereby we know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God (1 Jn 4.2)."

Contrarily, "Every spirit that confesses not the Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist...(1 Jn 4.3)." Christ says - "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven (Mt 10.32-33). What does it mean to confess Christ or that Jesus is come in the flesh?

The Greek word for confess 'homologeo' can mean to profess with our mouth. The Apostle Paul wrote: "Pray that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel....that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak (Eph 6.19 & 20)." To confess Christ is to preach the gospel in person with our mouth as Paul and the other disciples did.

The gospel that the Apostle Paul himself received and preached is easily preached by first asking another if they have heard the good news (Gospel means good news.), then telling them - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose the third day (1 Cor 15.1-4)." He wrote, "Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach anyother gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed (Gal 1.8-9)."

Hereby we know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God (1 Jn 4.2). And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh in not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist...(1 Jn 4.3).
