WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

By preaching the gospel we turn the world right-side up and speed the return of Christ to take us to be with him forever (IS 58.12, Mk 16.15, Mt 24.14,31 & 1 Thess 4.13-18) but how can we preach the gospel if we don’t know what it is?.

A person is saved by believing on Christ after we preach the gospel to them (Jn 4.35-36 & 6.47, Mk 16.15, Acts 16.31, Rom 1.16 & 10.14, 1 Cor 1.21 & 4.15 and Eph 6.19-20). But Christians don't know what the gospel is. Some think it is the whole bible, Genesis to Revelation, others that it is the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Some think it is telling others what Christ has done in their life (their testimony) or their witness (how good they are). St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach the gospel to every creature, if necessary use words.” Evangelicals have also reverted to this wordless gospel because they have replaced the gospel by their 'plan of salvation' that can only be preached from a pulpit (See USE WORDS and THE SINNER'S PRAYER on www.preach-the-gospel.org).

The Apostle Paul clearly defines the gospel in his first letter to the Corinthian believers - "Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand; by which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached to you, unless you have believed in vain (didn't believe in the first place). For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Cor 15.1-4).” The gospel according to the scriptures is easily preached to another by asking them if they have heard the good news (Gospel means good news.) and telling them – "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose the third day."

Now that we know what the gospel is we can easily preach it by simply asking others if they have heard the good news and telling them - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried and he rose the third day."
