"You will be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1.8)."

What did Christ mean when he said we will be his witnesses? It means to preach the gospel. Christ commands every beliver to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mk 16.15)." This is why we (the church) exist.

Let's first understand that it is Christ's testimony that saves, not ours (2 Cor 4.5). Christians have the mistaken idea that how good we are (our witness) or what Christ has done in our lives (our testimony) saves others. We are not good enough to save a flea. But Christ is! He saves every one that believes on Him (Jn 3.16 & 36, 6.46 & Acts 16.31). All we must do is preach the gospel to others in person with our mouth as Paul did (Mk 16.15, Rom 1.16 & 10,14, 1 Cor 1.21, Eph 6.19-20 & Col 4.3-4).

To preach the gospel to another simply ask them if they have heard the good news (Gospel means good news.) and tell them - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose the third day (See 1 Cor 15.1-4)." This is the gospel the Apostle Paul himself received and preached (1 Cor 15.3-4). Only Christ is perfect and His testimony (the gospel) on our lips saves others every one that believes (See SAVED! on for a definition of 'saved'.) Knowing that it is Christ's witness (the gospel) that saves removes a heavy burden from our shoulders. We don't have to be perfect. We can be ourselves, and just preach the gospel (Mk 16.15, 1 Cor 1.21, 4.15 & 15.1-4) . "I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes (Rom 1.16)."

Being His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judaea, Samaria, and the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1.8) can be translated as preaching the gospel in our city or town (Jerusalem), our state (Judaea), our country (Samaria), and the uttermost part of the earth (the rest of the world). After the gospel has been preached to every person in every nation the end will come and Christ will return and take us to be with him forever (Mk 16.15, Mt 24.14 & 30-31, & 1 Thes 4.13-18).

Ask others if they have heard the good news and tell them - "Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose the third day (1 Cor 15.4-15)." Then teach them that believe to preach the gospel as well (Mk 16.15 & Mt 28.20). Be my witnesses (Acts 1.8).
